3 Functions You Gain Control Over With An HP Tuner VCM Suite

Posted on

If you are working on a late-model Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) controlled vehicle, having a good tuner with a functioning software suite is an amazing way to give you control over certain functions. This combined hardware and software make it possible for you to essentially plug a computer into an engine and see the things you can adjust on the screen. While a lot of people are familiar with engine tuners and the different software types, many do not know exactly what aspects of the engine can be controlled with this kind of setup. Take a look at some of the engine and transmission tuning you can do with an electronic tuner and software setup.

1. You can adjust the transmission's shift speeds.

In some cases, it is necessary to adjust the shift speeds of the transmission. For example, if a racecar owner is working to achieve greater speeds in a shorter run, they may want the transmission to shift at a different rate than what the manufacturer has set in the engine. In the software setup, you have access to the controls to adjust the speeds and pressures at which the transmission will shift, so achieving certain actions during acceleration is more possible and easier than opting for a different transmission.

2. You can manipulate the air-fuel ratio.

Changing the air-fuel ratio, which is commonly referred to as the fuel curve, can help combat problems with things like overall airflow and fuel efficiency. However, making adjustments to the air-fuel ratio that is streaming through the injectors is only possible if you have access to the onboard engine computer that controls this ratio, and that is something that an engine tuner can provide. Tuners like the HP tuner with a VCM suite will grant you access to an easy way to make adjustments without actually having to break down the engine.

3. You can change the ignition timing.

Older EFI vehicles are pretty notorious for throwing themselves out of time when there are certain types of problems. For instance, if a timing chain or belt breaks, it can throw off the timing and make it hard for the engine to start and idle properly. The engine tuner will allow you to log in to the system and see where the timing is at currently if they are electronically controlled, and you can make the necessary adjustments from there instead of doing manual changes.
